In a worst case scenario, they'll have their "anytime upgrade" stuff going later where it's not that difficult or expensive to move up later. Moving from Vista, all your files, settings, etc. are supposed to get moved over, though you'll need to uninstall one or two things like antivirus first. It's also always wise to backup, and most would recommend a fresh install anyway. It doesn't really matter to be honest, but since you are a college student I think you should stick to Home Premium. You really don't need professional unless you're running a school or something.
