Which kind of Windows 7 should I get? And how tough is Windows 7 to install on to Vista?

I am mainly looking in between Home Premium and Professional. I’m leaning towards Home Premium because of the price tag, but if I pre-order, Professional also seems like a good idea.

From all I know, getting Professional would just be a good deal not necessarily useful. I am a college student, so networking wouldn’t be a necessity. I do think the automatic backup may be useful, but domain join and XP mode seems rather unnecessary.

I am currently running Windows Vista 64-bit and wondering when I get Windows 7 (either version), would it be a tough transition to Windows 7? (File transfers, internet bookmarks, desktop items, folders, preferences?)

Oh and one last question, I am using a laptop and wondering if installing Windows 7 will affect its usability to the 22 inch lcd monitor I use? Thanks

Home Premium should be fine for most people unless you’re sure there are features you’d use in Professional.

In a worst case scenario, they’ll have their "anytime upgrade" stuff going later where it’s not that difficult or expensive to move up later.

Moving from Vista, all your files, settings, etc. are supposed to get moved over, though you’ll need to uninstall one or two things like antivirus first. It’s also always wise to backup, and most would recommend a fresh install anyway.

You shouldn’t have to worry about something like your monitor.

If you are a gamer and play games and entertainment, then use Home premium.
But if you don’t play games, then professional is good.

I don’t think Operating Systems are fussy about what monitor they use. It doesn’t really matter to be honest, but since you are a college student I think you should stick to Home Premium. You really don’t need professional unless you’re running a school or something.
