I just saw one of his sites, & there very good! He not only designs them, he is able to maintain and update the site ($15 fee). And he uses a site called squarespace and he writes CSS & HTML in addition to the features on squarespace. But he makes the logo and templates in photoshop. The squarespace site provides unlimited bandwidth & that’s why he uses it v.s go daddy.

I got my website from a professional web designer starting at $499.

  2. Seems expensive for effectively repainting the cosmetics of a pre-programmed site environment like squarespace.

You might look at the alternative pre-designed site template as a starting point that can just be modified by a developer which can be put on almost any hosting service.

This site has a design selection form that narrows it down quickly.

Unfortunately the result of competitive spec. one-upmansship the majority of $5 – $9 a month shared hosting sites now offer "unlimited" bandwidth as well as including a free domain name, real world performance varies considerably depending on how many of hundreds of sites share your server, (godaddy hosting doesn’t have the best rep.) a squarespace for example pays affiliates a $100 finders fee for bring in new business account customers, these commissions probably skew the host review site results and developer choices

Actually if you are talking about http://www.squarespace.com/ they seem to be providing a preassigned environment that your description of photoshop tailoring would fit. Having a site put on this platform should cost considerably less than building a "normal" site since a minimum of hard core coding is required.

They mention the ease of editing a "style" (part of their proprietary system?)

I see a lot of sites using subdomains there, like many free hosts arrange their accounts.

This google search shows lists these sites that one could review in addition to the official edxamples:

    From their help section:
Squarespace websites are hosted at Peer1 Networks in New York City. Peer1 boasts a 100% network uptime guarantee, and is an extremely reputable hosting provider. From their website,

  5. So you are going to get more than one quote? Right?

You do know that "squarespace" is basically a website builder. All he seems to be offering is a customised template. It does seem a little expensive to say the least, especially when you consider that you could do it all yourself at a fraction of the cost by getting a squarespace account yourself.

As said previously this is a high quote for someone using a template builder. These are not custom made sites. Contact some other people for additional quotes. We usually build a basic site out starting around $500.

They can design a fantastic, professional looking site for you with all kind of features including e-commerce and set you up with a domain name. They will also use their SEO skills to help you rank on google and protect you from spam and viruses with their email filtering program.
