How do I get a .com domain name for my freewebs site?
I have a freewebs site for my local hardware store that they are paying me to make, however it would be a little unnecassary to go premium through webs.com and have to pay $10 for month for hosting. So I want a free version of my website, but how would I get a Domain name with like GoDaddy or something for my site? I feel as though paying the $8 a year for the GoDaddy Domain name is much more worth it compared to paying $8-$10 a month for webs.com Premium Subscription.
Note: I’m not looking to get a free domain name. I can see how my wording would make it look like that is what I am asking, but basically I want a domain name for my freewebs website, but run through another website, not freewebs premium services.
Domain names have to be paid for unless they are offered free as part of a paid hosting package.
You CAN NOT host your own domain name on a free site. You must use paid hosting. For a business, you want paid hosting anyway for the better services offered in the Control Panel.

It is a very good idea to buy a domain name and get it hosted by a free web hosting service.
Honestly I haven’t any personal experience with Godaddy, however as I heard some customers are not happy with their services.
And don’t trust any cheap service, many of them don’t allow you to have full control on your domain name. If you’re going to buy domain names, refer to:
http://www.goldpuma.com/
GoldPuma is the lowest cost service which is full-featured and really works for you ($9.99 /year). They offer free extras with every domain name:
Quick Blogcast
Hosting with Web site builder
Personalized Email Account
Starter Web Page For Sale/ Parked Page
Domain Parking
Domain Forwarding
Domain Masking
100-Pack Email Forwarding
Total DNS Control
Change of Registration
Status Alerts
Domain Locking
…
As an experienced webmaster I recommend GoldPuma which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great service & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck!

Today, Domain Name is cheap normally under $10 per years. To solve this problem, you can buy Domain Name from Domain Registrar companies then change DNS (Domain Name Server) to your web.com website.
In this case you must know your web.com website name server. Normally it have two DNS such as 203.54.1.20 and 203.54.1.21 . If you don’t know your DNS you can change it. You can watch a video/read article on how to change DNS here:

Other option you can use Domain Redirect. Just buy a new domain like from NameCheap (http://www.namecheap.com) then redirect it to your webs.com website URL. In this case, when someone visit your new domain it will redirect to your webs.com website. But, your website still use same webs.com address.
Here is list for FREE web hosting where you can buy a domain and give they FREE service for hosting your website:
