Windows 7 Starter Edition Question?

Posted on May 18th, 2010 by admin

Hi everyone! I am going to order Toshiba Netbook and it has Windows 7 Sterter Edition Installed.

It is important to note that Windows 7 Starter still includes only a subset of the features offered in the higher editions of Windows 7 such as Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional and above. Windows 7 Starter does not include:

•Aero Glass, meaning you can only use the “Windows Basic” or other opaque themes. It also means you do not get Taskbar Previews or Aero Peek.
•Personalization features for changing desktop backgrounds, window colors, or sound schemes.
•The ability to switch between users without having to log off.
•Multi-monitor support.
•DVD playback.
•Windows Media Center for watching recorded TV or other media.
•Remote Media Streaming for streaming your music, videos, and recorded TV from your home computer.
•Domain support for business customers.
•XP Mode for those that want the ability to run older Windows XP programs on Windows 7.

Would I be able to watch movies on netbook using anothe program such as Divx Player? I am very worried that I wont be able to watch movies ot listen music on this device because it doesnt support DVD playback

Please help! THANK YOU!

When using a netbook with Windows 7 Starter Edition, you will definitely be able to watch videos or movies as long as you have the right CODECS. A CODEC is a software tool which allows the encoding and decoding of a digital data stream. Once you have the proper CODECS installed, you should be able to use any media player to watch movies in most popular formats. Some media players such as the Kantaris Media Player come with CODECS preinstalled so you don’t need to download them separately.

POPULAR MEDIA PLAYERS for WINDOWS 7
Windows Media Player
Kantaris Media Player
Real Player
DivX Player
Quicktime Player
Gom Media Player

POPULAR FORMATS VIDEOS USE
.avi
.mpg
.rv
.qt
.mov
.wmv
.h264
.divx
.xvid
.flv
.vob
.mkv

If you do not want to go to many sources to download various codecs to watch videos, you can download an all in one codec pack here for free:

Netbooks are great for watching vidoes when away from home. I have many friends that use their netbooks to watch TV shows at Starbucks or other locations. Have fun with your Toshiba netbook!

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – Our Environmental Destiny

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.s reputation as a resolute defender of the environment stems from a litany of successful legal actions. In 2009, he was named one of Rolling Stones 100 Agents of Change. He has worked on environmental issues across the Americas, and has assisted several indigenous tribes in Latin America and Canada in successfully negotiating treaties protecting traditional homelands.

anyone who has windows 7 starter edition?

Posted on March 30th, 2010 by admin

i hear that when you get a windows 7 starter edition that you cant do the following features ( because i am getting a netbook with windows 7 starter)

( i got this info from a website)

•XP Mode for those that want the ability to run older Windows XP programs on Windows 7.

is this true??

Yes it is true, many netbook manufacturers were using Windows XP, because the Windows Vista system requirements were too high to put on a netbook. Microsoft designed Windows 7 Starter Edition, because Windows XP was getting outdated. Windows 7 Starter Edition is designed specifically for netbooks because they are slower, and cannot simultaneously run applications. In addition, Windows 7 Starter Edition can only run 3 programs at a time. Yes, the info you listed is true. Go to microsoft.com and read Windows 7 page. It will give more info. Good luck!
