Well domain names are not free, and no one would do business with you if you do not have one. So if this is something you are interested just get the domain name at http://www.newinternetdomains.com otherwise you got nothing.

Y-int=(0,7.5) which means 0 premium and 7.5 discount. This is impossible since you can’t have half a ticket. The max number of discount you can buy would be 5. 1 Discount and 5 premium (1,5)

How long is a piece of string? It’s an impossible question to answer accurately. If your site is No.1 for a very competitive search term you can make money. getting to No.1 for that kind of competitive search term takes a long time and professional work. You can’t just set up a website and expect people to start hitting your site and clicking ads. If it were that simple everyone would do it. The mere fact you asked that question suggests to me it is something you should seriously re-consider before you invest a lot of time and effort into it.

windows 7 upgrade from Home Premium to Professional?

I work with a small firm, 20 computers, we have a domain where about 15 of them using XP professional are connected, the rest are Windows7 home Premium (which came with the new computers OEM). This has turned out a bit of a pain as these cannot be connected to the Domain, nor can they be accessed by remote desktop. I would like to upgrade these to Windows 7 professional including licences etc, but I don’t have a clue about the licence thing etc.
2 questions.
1) Can anyone in UK give me an address(url) of where I can purchase these fairly cheaply quantity= 5.

We will be buying 2 more computers
2) Where can I buy these computers with ‘Windows7 Professional’ already installed, licences included.

Any advice on this would be welcomed.

The best thing to do is to contact Microsoft and get a Multiple Licence
so you only need one copy and then can install it on those 5 machines.

i recently got a domain name and happily started building my website on wix.com. i was very very happy ’cause it looks so good and i worked so hard at it!
the problem is…as i was about to publish it they told me i had to buy an account in order to use my domain name.
does anyone know if i can avoid this? i really worked too hard to waste all the effort, and i can’t spend any money in a premium account…

Help with Dreamweaver CS5?

I recently purchased Adobe CS5 Web Design Premium to start designing web pages. I have some experience with HTML/CSS from college. I also have The Missing Manual: Dreamweaver CS5 for reference.

I am currently designing a site for a friend of mine, and it’s pretty much ready for launch. The only issue I’m having with it is…how do I make the domain name the actual main page?

I’m not sure how to explain this, other than by giving an example….

Say I bought www.july.com. In Dreamweaver, when I created a new site, I saved the file as Main.html. Eventually, after designing the site and uploading it to the web, I have to type in www.july.com/Main for the website to appear in the browser. If I only typed in www.july.com, the page would say something along the lines of, "This page is currently being constructed."

I have no idea what I’m missing and any bit of information would be incredibly helpful.

Name the page "index.html" instead of "main.html".
Your hosting server will do the rest as long as index.html is in the root directory and not in a sub-folder.

By default, the first page in any website is "index.html".

The page that says "This page is currently being constructed" is probably named "default.html" and was uploaded by your host but "index.html" will always take precedent and load first, before anything else. The page named "default" will then be ignored. If there is already a page named "index.html", then overwrite it with your own.

Choose any website that is written in HTML. Type in the address like yahoo.com/index.html or target.com/index.html and see what happens. As long as the site is in HTML and not PHP or another format, the index page will always be their first page.

Here is something else you need to know:

If you have sub-directories in your website, you should include a page named "index.html" in each folder. However, it is not the same index as your main page. Create a blank webpage and name it index.html. Then upload it to each and every subfolder in your website design. It will block people from accessing each folder directly.

For example, I have created 2 sub-directories at a the URL http://zenlovely.com , which I no longer use. One sub-directory (folder) is named "images" and the other is "pictures". Both contain the exact same photographs.

I have a blank "index.html" inside the "images" directory.
I deleted the "index.html" from the "pictures" directory.

Web traffic will always go to index.html first. If there is no index page in a folder, the browser will display the contents of that folder as a list of links.

Now take a look…

Without the index.html page in the sub-folder, people can see the contents of the "pictures" directory but not for the "images" directory which contains the exact same photos.

Every sub folder in your website should have a blank index page. It also blocks hacking attempts. The only index that needs content is your main page.

If you begin any future projects by naming your main page "index.html", Dreamweaver will respond accordingly and handle just about everything for you.

But I need to know, nevertheless. If I buy a domain name via webs.com for about 20$, can I continue using webs’ site tools and continue being hosted by them? How does it work? Coz the premium offer (upto 249$ a year) state many features which include webspace, bandwidth, email etc etc.

So does that mean buying a domain name only gets me the .com name, while the rest features are similar to a free user?

I’m sorry if this is a stupid question, but it doesn’t specify details anywhere and I need to know before I make an investment decision.
