Upgrading to Windows 7 Professional on my HP?

I’m looking to upgrade from the 64-bit Vista Home Premium to the 64-bit Windows 7 Professional, due to needing the network domain software for college. I know I need to do a custom install, but I had a few questions. First, would the Windows 7 Media Center essentially be a better version of the HP Mediasmart programs? I talked to a rep from HP yesterday and told me that I should probably just stick with my Vista because I can’t get their specific version of 7 with their drivers on it, and if I use a retail version and something goes wrong they can’t tell me how to fix it. Currently I would need to upgrade the following:

-HP MediaSmart DVD
-HP MediaSmart Music/Video/Photo
-HP MediaSmart TV

So essentially everything that has to do with their MediaSmart program. Since I have to do a custom install of Windows 7 if I get it, would those drivers be transferred over in a backup or would I lose it once I get to Windows 7 regardless, or would the Media Center from 7 be better than HP’s program? Also, if anyone would possibly know where to buy the HP version of Windows 7 that would help as well, because the only way i’ve seen to get it is if you have bought your computer after June 26, you get a free upgrade. Thanks in advance!
