Posted on December 28th, 2009 by admin

im planning to create a website right now on go daddy.
i have a few questions for the computer smartys out there:

1. for my domain name, the site is suggesting i buy the .info, .org, AND .com. is it really neccessary to buy all them or is .com enough?
2. for my web hosting, do i want linux or windows? and um..what is linux?
3. should i get the economy, deluxe, or premium plan? and should i pay for just a few months or a lot of them?
4. and is there anything else i should buy or think about or whatever before i get it??

How do I get a .com domain name for my freewebs site?

Posted on December 28th, 2009 by admin

I have a freewebs site for my local hardware store that they are paying me to make, however it would be a little unnecassary to go premium through webs.com and have to pay $10 for month for hosting. So I want a free version of my website, but how would I get a Domain name with like GoDaddy or something for my site? I feel as though paying the $8 a year for the GoDaddy Domain name is much more worth it compared to paying $8-$10 a month for webs.com Premium Subscription.
Note: I’m not looking to get a free domain name. I can see how my wording would make it look like that is what I am asking, but basically I want a domain name for my freewebs website, but run through another website, not freewebs premium services.

Domain names have to be paid for unless they are offered free as part of a paid hosting package.

You CAN NOT host your own domain name on a free site. You must use paid hosting. For a business, you want paid hosting anyway for the better services offered in the Control Panel.

On godaddy.com they try to upsell you to premium service?

Posted on December 28th, 2009 by admin

After you put in the domains that you want for the low low price – they kind of threaten you by saying now all your private information is going to be waving in the breeze on the Internet. And of course they then offer you a solution to your dilemma – at still more cost. So a few questions.. if you register with other registrar will they keep your information private at no extra charge? Or do they all require extra fees to keep your name and address etc private? And lastly – how are godaddy’s fees compared to other registrars if you compare both their basic domain name service and their premium "keep your address etc private" service??

You will find this with any internet provider. Anyone can do a whois lookup on a domain and if your information is not ‘private’ (which usually does cost more) then anyone can see it. I have godaddy for my domain and I love them – I’ve never had any trouble with any of their services or products. When I was searching around I couldn’t find anyone cheaper. Also – if you will go watch their superbowl commericals on their homepage at the end of them they give you a discount code that is good for 10% off any purchase. :)

is www.myspace-alternatives.com A Premium Domain And Could I sell It for great money?

What is a premium domain?

Posted on December 28th, 2009 by admin

CONTEXT PLEASE!

Where do you see "Premium Domain"?

It could mean anything – like they give you more web space and other features… that frankly, you can provide yourself if you have the facilities or you may be able to get more from using someone else.

Can you help me find a name for my home/gardening website?

Posted on December 25th, 2009 by admin

I’m developing a website where people can design their home and garden online using 3D software. Then, they can share their plans with others to get feedback and provide inspiration for others. Currently, the site is called MyGardenPlans.com, but I want to change it to focus more on the home. Recently, I bought the domain name eGardenHome.com, but it seems a little cheesy. Can you help me find a better name? I don’t have a huge budget and can’t spend thousands on a premium name. I’m just looking for something short, descriptive and catchy.

(The website networksolutions.com has a listing of available names.)

Thanks for your help!!!

What is the difference between domain name forwarding and redirection?

Posted on December 25th, 2009 by admin

I recently purchased a second domain name. My first domain name is mapped onto my blog, just the way I like it. I want to set it up so that, assuming someone were to enter the second domain name into their browser, it would instantly transfer them to to the correct website.

My registrar offers free "web site forwarding" but it’s not quite what I’m looking for. When I enter my second domain name into my browser, my site does pop up but it doesn’t change the URL in my address bar to the "correct" website. Also, my registrar (which is Register.com) puts a banner ad at the bottom of the screen – you can pay for Premium services, which would get rid of the ad but I don’t think it would solve my issue.

I think it has something to do with the difference between forward and redirection. Is there one? Assuming someone were to enter the second domain name into the URL of their browser, my site would pop up but it’s not as if it’s truly redirecting them, just "pointing" them to the right place – the "mistake" hasn’t really been fixed.

Does that make sense? If anyone can offer advice, I’d appreciate it. Thanks!

Hello,

What you want to do is incorporate a 301 redirect to your site. This will need to go in the default document of your current website.

Can I get my own Domain Name Server / Name Server box or software, anywhere??

Posted on December 25th, 2009 by admin

If it is software is it free? Can I download it free?
Does it get shipped free? How much does it cost (if it isn’t free)? Is it is hardware where can I get it? Is the shipping free? How much does it cost to ship? How many domain names can it translate into IPs at once? Does it come with any FTP/SMTP server software? Is the FTP/SMTP free? Are the FTP/SMTP/POP3 add-ons free? Where can I get it?
Answer any of the relevant questions above, please!
I am using IIS7 and IIS6, WFTPD, no SMTP/POP3 software, Windows Vista Home Premium on a HP machine.
Also, is there any thing that can clean my mouse and keyboard of dust?

you can make your computer into a local area network domain virtual server, no problems there, When it comes to wide area networking thats where your problems begin, I won’t go through the details on that point.

As for network server software it comes FREE. if you use Linux open source software.. Microsoft will charge you a bundle for their server software, plus you have to pay them an annual license free, (not cheap) for all the MS software on the network server you are using,

if you’re interested in building a network, you can get (also free) all the tutorials on installing and setting up a server from any Linux distribution site. with all the help you will ever need, from the linux user groups and forums,

for downloading free network server software try the web sites below. it is hoped you have DSL broard band internet, to download LINUX..

Linux Sever software is 6 cd, or one dvd at 3.5 gigabite. with that you will get everything you will ever need. not only for networking but every other package of software and it will cost you nothing, only your time downloading, and the cd/dvd’s to burn the software on. and by the way Linux puts microsoft to shame. all you need do is do some research into Linux… there are many versions of linux… it is a case of picking the one that suites you the most..
hope this helps you out…

here is three sites to download linux from
